Training academy opens

The initial phase of the million-pound ‘futurised’ dental training academy will open its doors in December 2022 to trainee dental nurses.

At the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy’s (BSDHT) Oral Health Conference, held in Manchester the last weekend of November 2022, Miranda Steeples and Rhiannon Jones officially stepped up to the roles of president and president-elect, respectively.

Smoking figures show progress

New figures released on December 6, 2022, show that smoking rates fell to 13.3 per cent across the UK in 2021 and to 13 per cent in England. This is down from 14 per cent across the UK in 2020 and 13.8 per cent in England. The Office for National Statistics estimates there are currently 6.6 million smokers in the UK.

New association president

At the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the UK’s professional association for dental nurses, the British Association of Dental Nurses (BADN), held on November 22, 2022, at the Naval and Military Club, London and via Zoom, Debra Worthington took over the role of president from Jacqui Elsden.

Donation to support Ukraine

Simplyheath, the UK’s leading health solutions provider, has announced further funding in response to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Earlier in 2022, Simplyhealth matched donations raised by colleagues, corporates, dentists and customers to donate £120,000 to the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC). Simplyhealth has committed a further £90,000 to be divided between Computer Aid, HALO Trust and Unity.

Supporting childrens hospices

BioHorizons Camlog, a Henry Schein company, is helping individuals in need by collecting more than £10,000 worth of items for Naomi House and Jacksplace, hospices that support life-limited and life-threatened children, young adults, and families from central southern England.
