At the British Society of Dental Hygiene and Therapy’s (BSDHT) Oral Health Conference, held in Manchester the last weekend of November 2022, Miranda Steeples and Rhiannon Jones officially stepped up to the roles of president and president elect, respectively.

Speaking about the new role, Miranda commented, “The in-person handover from Diane [Rochford, immediate past president] to myself was such a special celebration, most particularly because it has been done online for the past couple of years because of covid.

“I obviously have my own ideas, but the first thing I want to do is to carry on the work previous BSDHT presidents, Diane and Julie [Deverick], started and worked so hard on during their tenures, including working to get exemptions legislation passed for administering local anaesthetic and fluoride varnish, as well as dispensing high-strength fluoride toothpaste.

“As for me, I will be working hard to benefit all members of the dental profession, to help them thrive both personally and professionally, making best use of our members’ skill mix to the benefit of the patients and the practice.”
