A team of dental professionals in Newark has completed a 16 mile walk across the Peak District to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The Mydentist Newark team raised £1,455 for the charity, surpassing its target amount.

Jamal Alvaranga, practice manager, said, “The sense of fulfilment was second to none once we crossed that line. It was quite the trek, with rough terrains, constantly changing weather and a few farm animals keeping us on our toes! But we wouldn’t have changed it for the world. Cancer has touched us all individually and so, we all felt passionate and motivated to complete this challenge for Cancer Research UK. We are all over the moon that we achieved what we set out to do, and more.”

Speaking on how the team prepared for the walk, Jamal added, “We prepared for the 16-mile hike by ensuring we completed plenty of practise walks beforehand and making sure everyone’s walking boots were worn in. The team’s strong communication skills proved invaluable before and during the walk and we all made sure we kept each other going through the tougher moments. Our teamwork skills were really tested but we made sure we kept spirits high with plenty of snacks and of course, suncream!”

Jamal concluded, “We are more than bonded as a team and we have united as a family. We are still laughing from the walk, and some of us are still aching! The experience has brought us all closer together, which is great, and you can really sense a feeling of togetherness here at the practice.”

The Newark team regularly participates in fundraising activities, previously raising money for The Children's Bereavement Centre and Beaumond House Hospice Care. It plans to continue its charitable efforts with another challenging fundraising initiative in the near future.
