Dental charity celebrates national Volunteer’s Week
Published: 05/06/2025
In honour of Volunteers’ Week (2 June to 8 June, 2025), Dentaid the Dental Charity is celebrating all the people who give up their time to help the charity change lives through dental care.
Established in 1984, Volunteers' Week provides an opportunity to thank volunteers for their time, passion and skills. The campaign highlights the diversity and unity of volunteer work across the UK.
Dentaid has said it couldn’t do its work without the support of hundreds of amazing dental nurses, dentists, industry professionals and oral health educators. Since the start of 2025, over 350 volunteers have helped the charity deliver 185 charity dental clinics across the UK, working on their mobile dental units to bring care to those who need it most.
Beyond the clinics, many volunteers visit schools to deliver BrightBites oral health presentations or lend a hand in Dentaid’s Totton warehouse refurbishing donated equipment and helping build portable dental chairs to send overseas.
Others travel with the charity to Uganda, Cambodia and Malawi to provide dental care in some of the world’s most underserved communities.
As the charity prepares to deliver more dental clinics than ever in 2025 and beyond, it has said the role of its volunteers has never been more important.
Sarah Rawlings, head of operations at Dentaid, said, “Volunteers' Week allows us to celebrate and recognise the fantastic contribution our volunteers make. It’s hard to underestimate the massive contribution that volunteers have made to Dentaid since we launched our first project in the UK back in 2015.
“We would not be able to exist, let alone do anywhere near as much as we do, without so many going above and beyond.
“The week is a chance for all of us to show just how vital they are in helping us break down barriers to dental care and making a lasting difference in people’s lives.”
