A youth vaping awareness campaign has been launched, which highlights concerns over super-sized disposable vapes, ahead of the upcoming parliamentary vote on the Tobacco and Vapes Bill.

The campaign, organised by vape retailer VPZ, features a mobile display that will travel across key London locations, illustrating the stark contrast between legal 2ml vapes and significantly larger illicit devices. The company is calling for urgent action to address the rise of these high-capacity, unregulated products, which they argue pose risks to both the health of young people and the environment.

Greig Fowler, director of VPZ, said, “We hope that our campaign will serve as a wake-up call to policymakers and the public, as it’s crucial that MPs act now to address the dangers of these super-sized disposables before the UK finds itself in the midst of another youth and environmental crisis.

“VPZ is taking a stand against the dangers posed by the unregulated vaping products that threaten to undermine the forthcoming disposable ban in June 2025. Our mission is to highlight the urgent need for action and collaboration to tackle these arising issues to the public.

“If we fail to respond decisively now, we risk further harm to young people, an environmental disaster, and undermining vaping’s role as a smoking cessation tool, which has helped millions to quit smoking.

“We must work together to strike the right balance, protecting smokers and ex-smokers while preventing further damage to public health and the environment.”

In response to the launch of the campaign, Nigel Carter, chief executive of the Oral Health Foundation, commented, “Tobacco remains one of the biggest killers, causing severe and often fatal diseases in and around the mouth, including mouth cancer. Vaping has been shown to be an effective tool to help adult smokers quit, but the rise of super-size disposable vapes raises serious concerns.

“These products exploit loopholes in regulations, making it easier for young people to access dangerously high levels of nicotine. Not only does this fuel addiction, but it also raises questions about the long-term impact on oral health, including gum disease, dry mouth, and increased risk of infections.

“More needs to be done to clamp down on illicit vaping products while ensuring that regulated vaping remains an option for those looking to quit smoking. The upcoming Tobacco and Vapes Bill is a crucial opportunity to strike the right balance - protecting public health while keeping harmful and unnecessary products off the market.”
