A new resource for the health of the entire dental team was launched by the Chief Dental Officer (CDO) at BDIA Dental Showcase on March 15, 2025.

The dental profession is fast-paced and demanding, with high levels of stress, burnout, and mental health challenges affecting individuals at every level. Studies have shown that over 86 per cent of dental professionals experience work-related stress, and nearly 60 per cent report symptoms of burnout.

Breathe is the first dedicated wellbeing platform for the entire oral health community, providing a hub for expert guidance, support, and resources for free. Designed by professionals who understand the unique pressures of dentistry, it offers practical, evidence-based tools to help individuals, teams, and organisations reduce stress, prevent burnout, and enhance overall performance.

Jason Wong, CDO England, said, “I am delighted to see the Breathe platform launch. General wellbeing of the whole oral health team is so important, and this will prove to be a valuable resource for team members to access and will have benefits right across the spectrum of the valuable work that we are all doing.”

The key benefits are:

  • Tailored for the dental community. Designed to address the unique challenges of dentistry.
  • Scientifically backed. The content is based on research and evidence-based strategies, ensuring credibility.
  • Proactive, not just reactive. Helps individuals and teams stay ahead of stress and burnout rather than just addressing them once they arise.
  • Flexible learning. Users can engage at their own pace, whether they want a quick wellbeing tip or a deep dive into a topic.
  • Multi-dimensional learning. Engaging content in multiple formats, including videos, written guides, and downloadable PDFs, ensuring accessibility for different learning styles.
  • Community and connection. Encourages peer support and shared learning.
  • For every career stage. Whether someone is just starting out, managing a practice, or looking to sustain a long career, Breathe offers relevant tools and insights.

The platform has been launched as part of a collaboration between the Office of the Chief Dental Officer (OCDO) England, MedDent Leadership and Wellbeing Academy and Cooper Transformation.

Rana Al-Falaki, co-founder, commented, “I’m particularly proud that the Breathe website covers every dimension of wellbeing—emotional, mental, physical, relationship, organisational, and financial health. And it then provides actionable strategies for personal growth, leadership, and team dynamics. A stressed and unhappy team is not an effective team, and this has a real effect on the bottom line. Whatever your role, please take the time to navigate the site, and I would welcome your feedback.”
