The Society of British Dental Nurses (SBDN) has launched its ‘Coffee Café’ event.

The monthly event offers dental nurses the opportunity to enjoy a coffee while chatting with colleagues and other members of the society, whilst earning their ECPD.

The society introduced the sessions following its AGM in November 2024 that looked at some of the society’s highlights over the last 10 years, in order to commemorate its 10th Anniversary in 2025.

One of the highlights recognised was the ‘Drop in Saturday’ event that it used to run. As a result of the pandemic, the team had to become more flexible and adaptable, and the Saturday morning event turned to evenings or one-to-one catchups. The society has therefore introduced the ‘Coffee Cafe’.

Each monthly meeting will have a central focus with a questions and answer session and where possible, a sharing of good/excellent practice. These are free to attend, and delegates will gain one hour of ECPD. Most of the topics will be fields that go beyond the basic recommended CPD topics and will inspire delegates to explore some different aspects of the wider field of dentistry and oral health.

The second session of the year will be taking place on February 22, 2025, and the subject will be ‘Returning to work after baby loss’.

With very little known to the profession about the NHS leave given after pregnancy loss, the society contacted the NHS England, to ensure dental nurses were included.
