A dental nurse has announced plans to shave her hair off to support her loved ones affected by cancer.

Sarah Robinson shared on her JustGiving page, “Many of my close friends, family members and patients I see at work have encountered life-changing health issues/illnesses. Many are affected by cancer, and sadly, some of them are no longer with us; some are on their treatment journey, and amazingly, many have fought courageously and are on the other side.

Supporting cancer charities is close to Sarah’s heart. She has previously run the Race for Life and completed The Great North Run.

As part of a training day in April, Sarah's colleagues are planning to assist her in helping raise awareness and funds for her campaign. The day will culminate in the shaving of Sarah’s hair. To date, the campaign has raised over £4,000.

Sarah reflected on the importance of hair, saying, “I have chosen to do something to push myself out of my comfort zone by having my hair shaved off. My hair is like, for many others, ‘my security blanket’, so no more stressing about a dodgy haircut or my fringe not being right. I'm just going to be out there bald, bristly, and going grey. My hubby hates me having a short haircut; I’m worried my Grandkids will be scared of me, but hey, what the heck? It will grow back; it’s my choice.”

Sarah added, “Lots of people encountering chemotherapy, amongst other reasons for hair loss, don't have that choice, and they are dealing with illness, worry and dreadful side effects.”

The money raised from Sarah’s shave will be donated to The Sir Robert Ogden Macmillan Centre in Northallerton.
