BrightBites, an oral health education programme, has delivered sessions to more than 60,000 school children across the UK.

In November 2024, the BrightBites programme reached the milestone of delivering oral health education sessions to more than 30,000 children, and has since doubled this number.

The programme, delivered by Denplan and Dentaid The Dental Charity, targets education settings including schools, nurseries and after-school clubs. The BrightBites volunteers deliver in-person fun and interactive sessions to educate and inform children about oral health.

The children also receive a toothbrush and toothpaste to take home at the end of each session, to help them continue their positive oral health journey. Denplan and Dentaid said this is an important facet of the programme’s prevention aims, with some families unable to afford oral hygiene products.

According to the partnership, this latest milestone has only been possible thanks to the efforts of over 360 volunteers who have delivered BrightBites oral health education sessions across the country. However, more volunteers are needed to help BrightBites in its mission to deliver oral health education to at least 90,000 children.

No dental qualifications or expertise are required to volunteer for BrightBites, and all materials and training are provided.
