Medical recycling solution launched in the UK

A new recycling solution has been launched to help dental practices become more sustainable and reduce the amount of waste which is sent to landfills and incineration.
International recycling company TerraCycle has released the ClinicCycle solution to provide the medical industry with a convenient and simple to implement solution to recycle their hard-to-recycle non-hazardous waste.
From disposable PPE to plastic packaging and oral care waste, ClinicCycle provides a tailored solution adapted to each type of business in the medical industry, including dental practices, orthodontists, and hospitals.
The medical industry produces a substantial amount of hard to recycle non-hazardous waste that mostly ends up in landfills. According to the NHS, it is estimated that 156,000 tonnes of clinical waste are generated annually by the NHS alone, which is either sent to high temperature incineration or for alternative treatment.
Julien Tremblin, general manager for TerraCycle Europe, commented, “The amount of waste generated by the medical industry is truly substantial. In light of this, we are thrilled to launch our ClinicCycle solution in the UK. When developing ClinicCycle, we wanted to take into account all different types of businesses that work in the medical industry – from dentist practices, to laboratories, hospitals, GPs and more. We want to provide a solution to suit all needs and waste streams.”
ClinicCycle offers a variety of different Zero Waste Boxes, and each box is available in three different sizes.
Michelle Drew, a dentist at Drake Dental Practice in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, said, “At Drake Dental Practice, we currently use the oral care waste and packaging Zero Waste Box and have placed it in our reception for all to use. It has been a real success in our practice, helping both our employees and patients alike to help keep our waste out of landfills and be responsibly recycled and repurposed. This aligns perfectly with our practice’s values, and we would like to continue to drive a positive change within our industry.”
