Orthodontic therapists and dental nurses are being given the opportunity by the British Orthodontic Society (BOS) to gain additional skills in fluoride varnish application by completing the new fluoride varnish teaching package. The training is available on the BOS Virtual Learning Environment.

Sally Walker, director of education at the BOS commented, “I am delighted that the education committee has been able to launch this initiative to provide training in application of fluoride varnish to patients undergoing fixed appliance treatment. Application of fluoride varnish is recognised by the GDC as an additional skill which can be developed by DCPs and completing this training package will provide dental nurses and orthodontic therapists with the skills required to be able to do this safely.”
