Sheila Scott, a dental business coach, has released an updated edition of her book, Putting health at the heart of your practice.

Celebrated for its practical advice on patient communication and trust-building, it draws on over three decades of patient research. Sheila offers actionable insights into what dental patients truly value and outlines how practices can deliver and prosper.

Sheila has a degree in psychology and a postgraduate diploma in marketing, bringing a unique perspective to patient-focused care. She had a 30-year consultancy career, helping dental teams refine their communication to boost patient satisfaction and practice growth.

Following her retirement, Sheila sold out the first edition of her book. She has partnered with Chris Barrow, a dental coach, for a series of seven workshops, which will take place alongside the relaunch of her book.

In 2024, Sheila conducted additional patient research to prepare for her workshops. While some trends stayed consistent, she discovered two significant shifts in patient expectations and identified areas where many practices still fall short. The updated edition tackles these opportunities head-on, offering practical strategies to improve performance and meet patient needs.

Sheila said, “For over three decades, my research has shown that trust remains the top priority for dental patients. Many teams underestimate how crucial this is. Beyond trust, patients are increasingly focused on the health of their teeth, gums, and mouth – even when cosmetic treatments are their initial interest.

“Health-focused initiatives don’t just build trust – they inspire patients to commit to their oral health and return regularly. If you want to grow a more profitable, health-led practice, this book is designed to provide the tools to get there.”
